My name is Kari Merrill and I am a Group Fitness and Programming Director at a family owned facility in Green Bay Wisconsin. I started my career path in 1998 as a Correctional Officer at the local jail. I was promoted to its highest level at the time of Intake Corporal. During this time I needed an outlet so I started hitting up Group Fitness Classes and working on my own fitness journey. I quickly fell in love with the Industry and began teaching Group Fitness in 2004. During that timeframe I continued to educate myself and learn more and more modalities in the hopes that someday I could make this my career. In 2008 I start a small business where I trained people in their own homes. As my love for my career as a Correctional Officer faded I felt myself spiraling downhill fast. The only thing that kept my head above water was my love for teaching and training.
In 2010 my dreams became a reality. I began as a part time Group Fitness Director right before a major renovation of the club had begun. Within this renovation, I played a key role in building our area’s first and only dedicated TRX, Cycling, and Mind/Body studio. I tripled the size of our Group Fitness offerings and doubled my staff.
My last 7 years at Western Racquet and Fitness Club has not only grown me as an instructor, trainer, and mentor, but as a person. I am 100% dedicated to learning from the best and paying it all forward. My goal for Western Group Fitness / Training Department is to have a well diversed, highly educated, and dedicated staff. In the last year I have been able to spread my wings outside of Green Bay and have been presenting for SCW Fitness Conferences. I present on the topic of Creative Programming for Group Fitness and how to break down and teach a Cardio Kickboxing Class.
I currently teach TRX, Strength, Cycling, Zumba, IndoRow, and Shockwave on the schedule. I develop and teach Small Group Trainings and Programs that integrate USB, RIP Trainer, BOSU, Rowers and more.
